Homer James Jigme Gere: Meet Richard Gere’s Eldest Son

Even during the United States’ decent into facism, celebrity-focused culture burns hot. Particularly interesting to fans are the details that ought to remain private, such as the children of their favorite stars.

Despite Richard Gere’s efforts to keep his family life private, his eldest son, Homer James Jigme Gere, is amongst those who have a spotlight they never asked for thrust upon them. Infrequently photographed with his oldest son, Richard Gere tends to censor the faces of his younger sons, both of whom are still minors (which means anyone who goes looking for photos is not only celebrity-focused, but potentially predatory as well) via obstruction or blur bubbles. Of course, this desire for privacy doesn’t stop too-curious fans and scoop-searching reporters from gathering as much information as they can about their favorite stars and their families, including that of Homer James Jigme Gere.

Early Life and Education

Born to Richard Gere and Carey Lowell in 2000, Homer James Jigme Gere was named for two different family grandparents: his father’s father, Homer Gere, and his mother’s father, James Lowell.

Richard Gere made efforts to keep his family life private, but did open up in a 2002 interview describing his son as the “joy of [his] life.” In the years since, Homer James Jigme Gere was infrequently seen with his father growing up, likely due to the stark media attention thrown at actor’s children without their or their parent’s consent.

According to his own LinkedIn, Homer James Jigme Gere attended high school at Hackley, a private college-prep school in Tarrytown, New York. He then attended Brown University, earning his Bachelor of Arts in psychology and visual art in May 2024.

Career

Since September 2002, Homer James Jigme Gere worked at the Brown School of Public Health’s neuroscience lab as a research assistant. According to his father in a March 2022 interview, Homer James Jigme Gere was beginning to explore the performing arts world.

“As it happens, he just started acting too,” Richard Gere said. “He has suddenly become interested and seems to enjoy it.”

Regardless of whether or not Homer James Jigme Gere pursues an acting career, fans of his father and anyone else who’d read an article about him ought to remember that actors are human beings who deserve just as much privacy as any ordinary person. Just because a person’s career involves their face being widely known doesn’t mean personal details are up for grabs as well.

At twenty-five years old at the time of writing, Homer James Jigme Gere generally keeps a low profile, a decision that should be respected by fans and not-fans alike. But of course, the “public” appearances he does make are often documented by reporters and photographers anyway, such as him just trying to spend time with his father in a place that happens to be public, even in other countries.

When he was still a minor- all the more reason for fans and foes to leave him alone- his parents divorced in a three-year settlement, pushing him further into the watchful public eye amongst the custodial parent rights battle. At sixteen, when the settlement was finally divorced, he allegedly went to live with his mother. Speaking as the offspring of a divorced couple, allow me to remind you, dear reader, that divorce is never the child’s fault and the child or children may not have any say in what happens to them. Courts can decide which parent the child or children lives with, whether they’re allowed to contact the other parent, or even dictate a communication schedule. Whether or not Homer James Jigme Gere chose to live with his mother is none of our business, and the discretion of details should be respected.

Currently, Homer James Jigme Gere is twenty-five years old and lives in New York. He also has an older half-sister, Hannah Dunne, and two younger siblings who are both minors.

Conclusion

Perhaps we should take a moment to reflect upon ourselves and wonder why we’re so interested in the children of entertainment stars. Do we envy them? Think we’d know exactly how to handle their status if it were us? Feel as if we have the right to judge someone who didn’t ask for their position anymore than we did?

Homer James Jigme Gere is a person, just like you or I. Sure, have at whatever information of his he chooses to make public. His own LinkedIn shares his education, but why should we care? But information about his personal life- family, home life, the many milestones you’ve celebrated or your own folks may have celebrated for you- does not need to be public if he does not wish for it to be.

Instead of reading click-baiting articles about celebrity’s children, use that time instead to research the countless tragedies happening around the world at this moment. Look into why children and families are relying on the help of foreign volunteers as the fatalities from the recent Central Texas floods continue to climb, when the Texan and federal governments should be tripping over themselves to help in any way they can. Check in on the progress being made to stop the genocide against innocent Palestinians. Notice how the same government that claims it cannot house the homeless built a concentration camp in a week.

We have worse things to worry about than an actor’s children.
