In every story, there is a plot twist that can be considered mind-blowing. Such is the saga of the animated series and graphic novel Avatar: The Last Airbender.
The story of Zuko and his mother’s fate appeared in the graphic novel, not the animated series. Fan sites claim that the animated series suggests that while he was a child, Zuko’s mother abandoned the Fire Kingdom without providing any answers. She appears in a flashback episode titled “Zuko Alone”. All is not lost, as the creators of Avatar: The Last Airbender, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, provided a lengthy and engaging narrative in the graphic novels on Zuko’s mom. This article will summarize the fate of Zuko’s mom and her life story.
Who is Zuko’s Mom?
Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation is the eldest son of Fire Lord Ozai and Princess Ursa of the Fire Nation. Princess Ursa is not just a princess by marriage. She is the granddaughter of Avatar Roku. Ursa lived in the village of Hira. The graphic novel of Avatar: The Last Airbender shows that Ursa was forced into marrying Ozai, son of the Fire Lord Azulon, to maintain a powerful bloodline in the Fire Nation.
What happened to Prince Zuko’s mom?
After getting married, Ursa and Ozai moved to the capital city. There, they raised two children, the eldest son, Zuko, and a daughter, Azula. There was a moment when Ozai and Fire Lord Azulon disagreed on whether to dethrone his brother, Iroh, for abandoning a battle to grieve the death of his son. Azulon found it heartless of Ozai to even think of doing that to his brother at his lowest point. He told Ozai to have his son killed so that he could feel what Iroh is feeling. Azula overheard this and taunted Zuko that he would be dead. When Ursa learned about this, she suggested a plan to kill Azulon so that Ozai could become Fire Lord and Zuko would not be killed. Ozai agreed to this plan but ordered Ursa to leave the capital city after this has been fulfilled. He wanted Ursa to leave him and their children because he had discovered that Ursa was writing letters to her old fiancé, Ikem. Even if leaving her children was very painful for Ursa, she still left to save Zuko’s life. Zuko and Azula were astonished to see their mother had gone when they woke up.
Will Zuko and his Mom ever meet?
It will not be until Zuko and Azula are grown up that they reunite with their mother. This part of the story is also found in the graphic novel. It is another action-packed adventure for Zuko.
This story demonstrates that the bond between a mother and her children can never be broken, no matter what.
