Trapboy Freddy, a 33-year-old rapper from Oak Cliff, Dallas, has built a name—and fortune—through music, with hits like Ain’t No Secret, Goin’ Thru It, and La Quinta. His rise to fame was fueled by social media, especially Instagram, where he now boasts over 667,000 followers. By 2018, he had already made dozens of professional appearances and co-headlined projects with fellow Dallas artists like Go Yayo and Slezzy Bezzy. Beyond music, he is also involved in other business ventures such as car auctions, and tobacco shops.
Another Kind of Record
Trapboy Freddy, whose real name is Devarius Dontez Moore, is of average build, standing at five foot seven, and weighing around 160 pounds. While he might not be an established rapper yet, his achievements so far should open the door to greater success. Reports about his current net worth are scarce, but an estimate puts it at around $5 million as of 2024 that he earned from music sales, live performances, and other business ventures. Like every professional musician, it’s safe to say that one of his main activities is producing records. But Trapboy Freddy has also produced another kind of record with the Dallas police.

Run-in with the law
The Dallas Morning News reported that on August 17, 2022, the Dallas police arrested him on the charge of illegal possession of a firearm. In the afternoon at about 2pm that day, the police paid a visit to Trapboy Freddy’s house at 2700 block of Meadow Gate Lane to assist U.S. marshals in serving a federal arrest warrant. It turned out he had been indicted in connection to an incident in March.
The police also found a tiger in the location. Dallas Animal Services secured the animal and placed it under protective custody. Although some states have made it illegal for a private citizen to own big cats, Texas allows the local governments to make their own laws regarding the matter. In Dallas County, however, keeping a pet tiger is against the law.
The rapper pleaded not guilty on Friday. The court granted him a release from custody under the conditions that he had to wear an ankle monitor, abide by a curfew, and submit a drug screening test. According to CNN, the terms of the release also stated that he wasn’t allowed to own dangerous or wild animals. In November 2023, the court sentenced him to 16 months in prison on gun trafficking charges after accepting a plea deal in May, the Dallas Observer reported.
Previous record
But that wasn’t the only time Freddy Trapboy had a run-in with the law. On November 27, 2018, the Dallas police booked him into jail for evading arrest. It all began when patrol officers saw him smoking near the entrance of a grocery store, which would typically count only as a misdemeanor. He ran after the officers approached him and tried to grab his arm. The pursuit only lasted for about 380 feet. He was out two days later and posted a video of his arrest to show that some of the officers punched him when he was already on the ground.
Takeaway
Devarius Dontez Moore, better known as Trapboy Freddy, is a Dallas-based rapper with a number of hit songs credited to his name. While on his way to build fame for himself, he also carved a path to infamy through felonies that earned him a stint in prison.
