Babypotz – Baby Food Storage Review

babypotz baby food storage container tubberware mummycooks

The one big difference between my two babies is their eating habits. I have one kid who eats bland dinners consisting of mash, veg and one meat, mainly chicken. While Frankie my littlest babog will eat anything. If he had to choose between food and his mammy, food would win every time. (more…)

Bee the Book – Farm Friends – Review, Giveaway and Discount Code

Bee The Book Review

IMG_20150224_165031

Farm friends is an interactive vibrant book that parents can bring to life. It allows children to maintain full eye contact and see the correct pronunciation of words as parents look through the hole and read a rhyme featured in a fold down flap which is only visible to the reader.

Author Debora Tobin came up with the innovative idea when she struggled to get her own children to sit and listen during story time. She decided to bring a whole new experience to reading. She wanted storytime to be fun with a baby or toddler.

The book is made from durable flexible card with a high gloss shine and 50% of the profits from the book go to charity Bee For Battens.

The book has been in our possession a few months now. It would definitely one of my top five baby and toddler books for the educational and interactive fun factor. We recently introduced it to Frankie and he thinks it’s hilarious. Kayla reads it to him sometimes too, she actually knows most of the rhymes by heart now, just shows how much we actually read it.

If you buy one book for your little babog this year, it’s got to BEE this one!!

Kayla’s Review

I love Bee the Book. My mammy looks so funny with wings, wool and four legs. She sometimes makes up her own funny stories. Frankie thinks mammy is so funny too, she always makes funny noises and silly faces. I read it to him too. I’ve never seen a bee on a farm though, my mammy says that’s because I’ve never looked for one. So next I go to the farm in Wexford I’m going to look for bee’s.

Bee The Book – Farm Friends is €9.99 and available to buy HERE. I also have a discount code; use MYLITTLEBABOG at the checkout to receive 20% off.

I also have a book to giveaway to one of my lucky readers. To enter LIKE Bee The Books on Facebook and COMMENT on this post. Competition closes Tuesday 3rd of March.

Oisin the Brave – Robot Island – Review

We recently got our hands on childrens book Robot Island, the latest in the series of Oisin the Brave books to review. The book is written by Irish couple Michelle Melville and Derek Mulveen. Derek also illustrated the book along with artist Valerie Bouthyette.

robot island review

The story is based in the magical Irish kingdom of Tir na N’Og and just like the first Oisin the Brave, Moon Adventures the books illustrations are captivating and suck the kids right in.

The book is based on Oisin, Orane and Irish Princess, Eire. We also meet lots of robots, one in particular we both took a liking too along with funny strange creatures throughout the book.

Oisin and Orane are on a quest to save a little robot that washes up to shore with little or no energy left. Just like in the first book both explorers head off through the Dolmen of Time on a quest across the sea’s to complete their mission, to help save a little robot. Although everything is not plain sailing on their voyage.

Again I love the traditional Irish names, the location and the Irish elements in the book. In the last few pages you will find a cupla focal as gaeilge and I enjoyed teaching Kayla some new Irish words that we had just read about.  I really enjoyed the book, it was colourful, exciting and funny, but my opinion doesn’t really matter. See what Kayla has to say…

I love my new Oisin the Brave book. Princess Eire is in it loads. I love princesses especially ones with red hair. My mammy says that’s really Irish and I’m Irish.

My book was singed (signed) by the author. Mammy is teaching me about who is behind the book, who writes and illustwrites (illustrates) the books we read.

This book has a green button on the dolmen of time too; it wasn’t in the last book. That makes me very very very happy.

I like this book because… (long pause) of the adventures in it. The whale talks funny, the little strange creatures look funny and sing funny and in the end they save the wee robot. He is so so cute.

I also love playing ‘where’s the worm’, a makey-up game, she is so cute aswell.

I really like this book but mammy says she can’t read it every single night of the week so sometimes I draw pictures of Princess Eire instead.

I give it 10 out of 10

Messy Monkeys – Review

Last week Frankie and I attended Messy Monkeys in Mounttown Community Facilities, Dun Laoghaire, South Dublin. Messy Monkeys is a place for babies and toddlers to discover, investigate and explore their senses and imagination in messy play. Messy play is an important part of children’s early education. It helps promotes fine and gross motor skill development and best of all at Messy Monkey you don’t have to do any cleaning up, that’s Lucy’s job, the very first Messy Monkeys franchise owner in Ireland!

There were six messy play areas at our session. We started painting with the non-toxic and gluten free paints. May I remind you Frankie is nine months old so everything he gets in hands on is eaten, nibbled and/or chewed. The paintbrush was no different. It was his first time to paint freely and he really enjoyed mushing the colours around.

IMG_20150109_141009

The next play that followed was a large tub of warm water with loads of toys including a watering can that Frankie loved. If Frankie could talk he’d tell you this was his favourite part of the session. He smiled, giggled and thoroughly enjoyed. He almost dived in at one point.

IMG_20150117_222120

We continued on to the sand bucket, something Frankie was very unsure of, the texture was new and he didn’t quite know what to do with it so we moved on swiftly to the tinsel box. He just loved pulling at the strings and making a huge mess. There was a little craft corner to create a crafty calendar but unfortunately time had run out so we never got to make one but we brought it home and Kayla decorated it for us that evening

IMG_20150118_000512

I loved watching Frankie experience different messy activities, he had so much freedom to create and explore the world around him. If you follow my blog you will know I’m a huge fan of sensory play and love nothing more than allowing him to explore in messy play but I hate the mess. The best part of the session was comfortable and relaxing atmosphere and appreciating I did not have to clean any of it up. There was paint, glue, sand, water and stringy tinsel EVERYWHERE!

DSC_1115

Lucy supplied large buckets of soapy warm water to wash down out tots after our forty-five minute play session. I genuinely thought the paint would be a nightmare to remove but it was fine and washed off with just a little rub.

If you are looking for something fun to do with your baby or toddler I would highly recommend Messy Monkeys. Your child will benefit from the social interaction, educationally and you will meet lots of mums and dads alike, which is always nice if you feel like your talking to the four walls daily.

Lucy runs term classes varying in length between 5 and 6 weeks. She also runs one-off ‘Splatterday’ classes on a Saturdays for people who can’t make it during the week. A course will cost €58 for five weeks and the cost of a 6 week term is €70. There is also sibling discounts if you have more than one child. You can book directly on the Messy Monkey website or you can check out their Facebook page for more information.
I was giving a session of Messy Monkeys play for reviewing purposes. All opinion are my own.

Lush FUN Blue Bedtime Bath bar – Review

During a recent visit to Lush Henry Street, I came across a fantastic multi-purpose soft bath product for children and adults. The Lush Fun range is a bubble bar, body wash, solid shampoo and even for play. My four-year old hates getting her hair washed, it can be somewhat of an exaggerated and traumatic ordeal, now with this Play-Doh like substance bath-time has changed forever. (more…)

Review

When Helena from Babatots invited me along, although very interested I could only picture myself twisting Frankie into funny positions, breathless and attempting impossible poses.

IMG_20141202_122828

Helena took a very relaxed approach, with calming and soothing music. Each hour long class commenced with some simple breathing exercises. We would unwinding in meditation learning how to control our breathing.

Class followed with some simple stretches bending babies’ knee into their chest, crossing their arms over, stretching, stimulating and helping to improving their muscle development. We played, we sang and we had special one-on-one bonding time with baby. My yogi-bear loved the stretches, he still does, he chuckles every time.

Then we moved onto some of the funny positions I mentioned earlier. I did feel a little silly when we started the poses at my first class. One of the women on my course clearly did gymnastics, she twisted and posed to perfection. I was a breathless octopus (hands and legs everywhere) struggling to keep my posture and hold me ten-tonne baby correctly. Helena was brilliant at direction. She wanted us to feel comfortable and she helped anyone struggling with a pose.

There’s no alphabet to yoga but by class three if there was, I would have been able to spell yoga with my poses. I had great confidence once I became comfortable with holding my koala bear all thanks to Helena.

Each class ended with a relaxation exercise. Helena would have us falling asleep at her feet, unwinding in a trance. After each class Frankie would have a peaceful deep sleep and he would always be in fantastic humour upon wakening.

yoga

I’ve now been practicing yoga three months effectively and I feel great. My bodily posture has improved immensely. When we are having a bad day or if I get anxious I practice my breathing exercises and it really helps me regain control. I loved playing and having that special one-on-one bonding time with Frankie, all while exercising.

I really enjoyed the course of mum and baby yoga with Babatots and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to shift some pregnancy weight, meet some new friends or anyone looking for some precious and productive one-on-one time with baby.

Babatots have a host of classes around Dublin in everything from bump to baby at various times, you can check them out HERE. They also have a regularly updated Facebook page with informative shared content that you can also check that out HERE.

bobby & belles

We recently received a beautiful floral navy and white dress from Bobby & Belles to review. I don’t normally get clothes online for Kayla, personally I like to touch and feel the quality and verify Kayla likes the the dress too. Even at four, she has her own sense of style and knows exactly what she likes to wear.

The dress arrived last week and once opened she had to wear it straight away. The dress hit below her knee and cupped at her wrists,  no cardigan necessary for the winter months. The quality and durability of the fabric is outstanding, it’s washed really well and did not lose shape. The dress costs €17.95 and is worth every penny.  I would certainly buy from this store in the future.
