Ah, lads, it all happened so quick. It was like I was there blinked and I was home again. As you all know I’m no stranger to Martinhal having visited last year with Kenzie.
Last month I was invited back for their annual Luxury Family Brand Conference. However, I won’t talk much about that. You guys want to know about the resort, the food, the drink and how much sleep I got each night.
Martinhal is a five-star luxury family resort located ten minutes from the coast in the seaside town of Cascais. Martinhal is a family run business. owners Chitra and Roman Stern built their brand around their four children. As parents of a young family, they knew exactly what they wanted when building their empire. Martinhal is just one of many of their resorts across Portugal.
As mentioned before Martinhal is a luxury resort, so for me it’s not my average holiday. However, as mentioned in my previous write-up on Martinhal last year it’s hard to believe something so luxurious can be so child-friendly.
The Kids Club House:
The main attraction for families in Martinhal is the playground and kids club building located securely in front of the hotel. The large kids club building has something for all ages including a nursery room, baby room and children’s playroom. Above it on the second floor is a café restaurant so parents can sit back and enjoy ‘a cappuccino with the foam still on it’ – the resort’s motto.
Other activities for children include:
- Indoor dome swimming pool
- Irish Fairy Door Trail
- Fully equipped playgrounds
- Sandpit including buckets and spades
- Floating pillow
- Ground level trampoline
- Basketball pitch
- Air hockey
Martinhal offer babysitting services which I availed of last year. I cannot fault it nor did Laura this year who brought her baby along too. The staff is welcoming, friendly and above all professional. Children who attend the kids club eat like Kings and Queens off a packed menu from the restaurant upstairs. The menu caters for all dietary requirements, including me the vegetarian who doesn’t any meat, chicken, fish, mushrooms or any cheese but cheddar. I know, I know – what do you eat I can hear you all ask.
The resort has three restaurants, one mentioned above and another two with the Hotel itself. In the main restaurant, where breakfast is also served there is a play area supervised by staff so parents can eat a warm meal without having to keep getting up to their kids. I know it sounds surreal.
The rooms are spacious and each one comes with their own balcony. During my stay, I got the same room as last time, a double room. Martinhal do offer rooms for families on site and luxury villa’s just minutes away from the Hotel itself.
Each room is fully equipped with:
- Nespresso machine
- Mini bar including soft drinks and light snacks
- Ropes and slippers
- Miniature Voya skin care shampoo, condition, shower gel, moisturizer and soap
- Bath and walk-in shower
- A large balcony with comfortable chairs
- And my favourite a super king size bed
Last year when I visited with Kenzie we had a travel cot, a baby bath and little flip-flops for her. Each child who stays on the resort receives complimentary flip-flops.
Ah, lads. Conference aside and the many nibbles they fed us throughout at Martinhal is to die for. They’ve three restaurants. There’s the O Terraco, The Lounge Bar and the M Bar which is located above the kids club each offering a variety of cuisine including fresh purees for babies. Breakfast is served buffet style in O Terraco and includes everything from hot food, cold meats and cheeses, endless fruit platters, smoothies, pastries and let’s not forget those unbelievable little mini Portuguese custard tarts, divine. My mouth is watering just thinking of them.
Other things worth mentioning…
- On-site you can rent bikes of all sizes including bike trailers for toddlers and younger children.
- If you forget to pack a European plug reception have an unlimited supply.
- Staff drop little chocolates on your bed in the evening so when you routine there’s always a little sweet treat to enjoy as you get ready to head for dinner or into town for the evening.
- It comes complete with its own Spa, the Finisterra – meaning the end of the earth. And that it is, the list of treatments are endless.
- Martinhal is located in between two championship golf course.
- The main pool is seasonal.
- Martinhal Cascais is not their only hotel, it’s one of many. They also own Martinhal Sagres, Martinhal Chiado and Martinhal Quinta.
Even if I wanted to be petty I have absolutely no faults with Martinhal. It’s a five-star luxury resort and you get exactly what you pay for. From the minute you walk through the doors you are treated like royalty but not in an overbearing way. I know for a fact my kids wouldn’t want to leave because I didn’t.
And just for clarification, I slept like a baby.
The Luxury Family Brand Conference
The main reason I was at Martinhal, in any case, was to attend the Family Brand Conference on behalf of the Irish media. MCing the event was Olivia Cannon the co-founder of Family Friendly HQ, one of the parenting website I currently write for. She absolutely rocked it.
The conference itself was very inspiring and educational. One particular speaker I have to mention is Rob Law, the founder of Trunki. Having watched him being rejected from Dragons Den a few years back it just goes to show what perseverance and determination will do. He’s built a hugely successful family brand even though Peter Jones told him his invention was ‘worthless’ back in 2006.
Business owners, bloggers and professionals from around the world came together to share their stories, network, advise, educate and inspire each other. In my opinion, it’s probably one of the best conferences for a family brand to showcase their brand in Europe
Here’s a little clip of the Luxury Family Brand Conference:

As mentioned before I was invited to Martinhal complimentary as part of a media trip, all words and thoughts are my own. I cannot thank Martinhal enough for inviting me back to experience their resort again. I had an absolute blast and can only hope when my kids get a little older that we can revisit as a family and enjoy the luxury together.
