Ever go into one of those parenting or pregnancy groups and feel like it’s a puzzle? Over the past few months I’ve found myself googling half the acronyms and abbreviations I’ve come across.

Lets play a game of FILL-IN-THE-BLANKS.

‘Hi, I’m a FTM. I CD, BW and we’ve just started BLW. I’m a WM and my MIL minds my DS and she feels my DS isn’t eating enough. Any advice? TIA x’

Did you understand any of that? Abbreviations and acronyms are popping up everywhere these days especially in forums and parenting and pregnancy groups. When I joined my first mammy group last year I use to be furious when I seen FTM, I thought it meant full-time mom but it actually means First Time Mom. Then there was a VBAC. Having never had a caesarean I was totally out of the loop with this one. It means Vaginal Birth After Caesaran just in case you’re a tick like me and hadn’t a clue.<script async src=”//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js”></script>

  1. Most of these are new to be even with 2 under 2…maybe I’ve not been googling enough! Too many abbreviations just make me stop reading. It’s like an exclusive club!

  2. Yep I’m pretty good with all these abbreviations now but it wasn’t too long ago that I was like, WTAF! Lol 😉

  3. OMG these used to drive me crazy when I first joined my birth month forums on the Birth Centre. I had to Google 90% of them and still don’t understand the point of the “darling” before everyone anyone refers to, do you?

  4. I am so glad I read this post!!! I have never understood those abbreviations! I really don’t understand why it has to be DD and DS. I never talk to people and describe my son as my ‘dear son’! X

  5. lol I knew about 5 of these! I’m constantly googling appreciations & am useless at them. Same goes for hashtags on Instagram & Twitter! x

  6. These are great! I am a special needs mammy so we talk alot on line in abbreviations about all the conditions etc but some of yours above I have never heard of like CIO 😀 Good to know now if I read some of these elsewhere I won’t be half as confused as I normally am.x

  7. I admit to having to Google some of these before. I hate text speak so these annoy me, especially if one was to use so many in one sentence, making in incoherent. Thank for the list, I have seen people mention BFP and knew it meant a positive test but didn’t actually know what the letters meant

  8. wow, im shocked at how many of them I didn’t know. I don’t really use abbreviations maybe just the odd LOL now and again.
