Daddy got a rare Saturday off work so we loaded the car and continued our Adventures of Eire and heading to outdoor adventure park Clara Lara Funpark in County Wicklow. It’s been at least 15 years since the last time my last visit and pregnant or not it’s still as awesome as ever.
Clara Lara Funpark is situated on 30 acres of scenic countryside in the Avonmore River Valley, Co. Wicklow. With something for every age from water slides, rafts, Tarzan swings, go-carts, mini golf, rope bridges, swings, a huge sandpit and canoes just to name a few. Admission is €12 per adult/child over the age of five so we got Kayla in for *coughs* free. However some of the rides like the waterside and Go Carts are extra so it’s probably best to buy a gold bracelet for €10 which covers unlimited usage of everything.
On a budget as always, we packed a huge picnic but they have lots of free fixed barbeques but I’d recommend getting there early if you want to guarantee one. The water in all the man-made lakes are approximately 2-3 feet deep and there are lots of supervisors and operators monitoring the water and rides at all times. So make sure you bring plenty of spare clothes and old shoes.
My prayers of Joe going on his back in the water were left unanswered. Also, the staff are everywhere. Very attentive and watching the water at all times. It was very reassuring especially as I couldn’t get the big kid out of the water or go in.
Little miss really surprised me, she was mad for all of the activities, not a bother on her diving into the water. And I was rather jealous watching from afar getting kicked to death.
Frankie was in his element in the huge sandpit, he entertained himself for the guts of an hour. He actually crawled away from our picnic to go back to it at one stage. There is plenty of diggers, spades and buckets to keep the babogs entertained. They’ve had a massive playgroup, with lots of greenery for the kids to go wild and a really cool ship looking over a majority of the park.
If you do anything this summer pop Clara Lara onto your to-do list, I’d highly recommend it. There were no complaints, whingey moments or going home threats. It opens at 10.30am so pack lots of spare clothes, snacks, towels and old but comfortable footwear is a must (gobshite had sandals for the big kid). Pregnant or not I had a brilliant day reminiscing about my childhood.
